Oakley The Therapy Dog
We would like to welcome Oakley the Australian Shepard to our school. He is a trained therapy dog who visits with us on Wednesdays.
Research shows that the use of Therapy Dogs in schools can have a significant impact in motivating students, improving outcomes, building confidence and self-esteem, as well as enhancing relationships with people and dogs. Dogs are non-judgmental, comforting and can remove barriers from children (or adults).
When 'on duty' Oakley will be on a lead and with his trained ‘handler’ Mrs Slatter at all times. If you see Oakley and Mrs Slatter in the yard feel free to say hello and you could even ask for a little pat.
We’ve sent a Compass post to all families, and ask that parents/carers please read the ‘Dogs in School’ policy attached to that email.
If you would like to ‘opt out’ of interacting with Oakley or have an allergy to dogs please email the school email address aintree.ps@education.vic.gov.au. It will always be optional for students to interact with Oakley.
